  Firewire and USB are not 100% electrically compatible. So I suspect that any simple bit of wire with just a plug on each end will cause nothing but grief.
  If however it has some sort of electronics in the middle then it might work.
  By far the best solution might be to buy a Firewire card for your PC. Just need a vacant PCI slot in the back. Or you can get PC cards that plug into a laptop slot if you prefer.
  Have a look in Maplin or if you have no where else to go ( ) PC World. You might find something suitable there. Or look online if you prefer. Somewhere like eBuyer for example.

  It is a USB cable. Nothing at all to do with Firewire. And assuming I am looking at the right camera on the Sony website it doesn't have USB anyway.

  Ok, I was assuming that a 4-pin Mitsumi connector had to be Firewire but reading your response and the ad again, it's clear it's actually a kind of USB.
  Beintot - thanks but we have three netbooks and an old PC in the family, none of which support Firewire, only USB and USB 2.0.
